A local network of small hydroelectric plants provides clean low-cost electricity for the locality it enwraps, for the neighbors and beyond along the Swiss electricity grid. Martin Maron, the director of Flims Electric AG, shows us around the facilities speaking about the prospects of renewable energy in the region and in the country as a whole. The prospects are as many as they are varied in terms of technologies out there. So far, the most reliable and practical one has been hydro. Most of Switzerland’s clean power is sourced from water as it rushes down the mountains to rest in cold deep lakes in the valleys. There are about 1200 small and large hydropower plants in Switzerland today, which produce an average of around 35.076 GWh per year.
